Presentation at 2026 SECAC Conference

This weekend, I had the pleasure of presenting at the annual Southeastern College Art Conference (SECAC) Conference, held in the beautiful Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza, an architectural gem of French Art Deco design.

My paper, “Museums as a Site of Healing for Indigenous Communities,” was part of the session “Artist and the Museum in the 21st Century,” chaired by Jon Malis (Loyola University Maryland). In my presentation, I explored how museum decolonization efforts can extend beyond repatriation to include reframing curatorial narratives and didactic texts, especially in institutions whose collections stem from colonial violence.

Conferences like SECAC are always a reminder of how vital it is to continue rethinking the role of museums, not just as repositories of objects, but as spaces of dialogue, repair, and collective healing.
